Methodology

The rigor behind the speed

Verso delivers qualitative insight in under a week. Fast usually means shallow, so here is exactly how we keep it deep, honest, and grounded in real people, at every step.

Book a call AI does the heavy lifting. Real researchers keep it honest.
The trade-off

Depth or speed. You had to pick one.

Until now, hearing from your customers meant choosing between two imperfect options.

Traditional qualitative

Deep, but slow and small

Focus groups and one-to-one interviews go deep, but they take weeks or months, cost a lot, and reach only a handful of people. The moderator and the group shape what gets said.

Surveys & dashboards

Fast, but shallow

Surveys scale and come back quickly, but the questions are closed. You learn the what, and almost never the why behind it.

Our method is built to give you both. Depth at the speed of a survey.

Our solution

What actually happens, step by step

It starts with recruiting the right people and runs all the way to the report. AI does the work at scale, and proven qualitative craft is built into each step, so the rigor holds even when the clock is running.

00

Recruit

We start with the right people.

  • Great insights start with great respondents. We recruit through trusted, professionally-managed panels, and screen every participant against your criteria before they ever reach an interview.
  • We watch engagement quality as the study runs. Anyone who rushes, contradicts themselves or free-rides is flagged and replaced.
  • So your sample is people who genuinely fit and are genuinely engaged, not box-tickers.

The craftquota and quality screening, attention and consistency checks, fraud and duplicate detection before a single answer counts.

01

Design

We build a real interview guide, not a survey.

  • We start from your learning goals and turn each one into a clear hypothesis to test.
  • Each hypothesis becomes 5 to 10 open questions, ordered to feel like a natural conversation.
  • We use real qualitative craft: we ground people in their own habits before asking them to judge anything, and we map the tensions worth digging into.
Example: testing a new perfumeWe first ask what someone usually wears, and how they'd describe it. Only then do we ask where this new scent sits for them. People judge far better once they're grounded in their own world.

The crafthypothesis-driven design, grounding respondents in their own context before any judgment, laddering to move from attribute to emotional benefit, and projective techniques to surface what people can't say directly. The same frameworks a senior qualitative researcher uses, encoded into the guide.

02

Interview

An AI that listens, then follows up.

  • People answer by video or voice, on their own time. No group, no moderator watching, so they speak more freely and more honestly.
  • After every answer, the AI decides: did we learn enough, or should it dig deeper? It asks a follow-up whenever the answer is thin.
  • It reads the room. If someone is rich and open, it digs in; if someone is tired, it moves to the key questions. Interviews stay short, so answers stay good.
  • We can show a stimulus (an image, a video, a moodboard, a product) and capture the real reaction to it.

The craftadaptive, non-directive probing. The AI follows up on thin or ambiguous answers, explores the unexpected in real time, and never leads. It's trained on real moderation technique, not a fixed script.

03

Analyze

We read every interview, twice.

  • First we clean the data: timestamp every transcript, flag anything that looks off, remove duplicates.
  • Top-down: we score each answer against what we set out to learn, turn it into numbers, and keep the exact quote behind every number.
  • Then we read each person as a whole, not answer by answer, to catch the 'why': how sure they are, whether they changed their mind along the way.
  • Bottom-up: separately, we hunt for the strongest stories (emotion, surprise, real experience) without looking at our own hypotheses, so we don't miss what we didn't expect. The two readings are then cross-checked.

The crafttop-down scoring against learning objectives, plus independent bottom-up thematic coding run blind to our hypotheses. The two readings are cross-checked, so signal is confirmed from two directions and nothing gets forced to fit.

04

Report

Insights you can trust, question, and reuse.

  • You get learnings and stories, not a wall of charts, written to be understood and shared.
  • Every quote links back to the exact moment in the recording, so anyone on your team can check the source themselves.
  • Results are shown by group (age, usage, and so on) with honest sample sizes. We never stretch a tiny group into a big claim.
  • It's a living report you can question, and it feeds your cross-study knowledge layer, more on that below.

Your studies talk to each other

A study doesn't end when the report ships. Every interview you run with Verso joins one living knowledge layer. Ask a question in plain words, and the chat searches across all your studies, past and present, then answers with the findings, verbatims and segments behind it.

  • Bring past and present studies together in one place.
  • Ask cross-study questions in plain language.
  • Every answer is backed by real verbatims, linked to the source.

Across all our fragrance studies, what do under-35s say about layering?
For younger buyers, layering is about self-expression, not saving money. They mix scents to build a signature that feels their own, and see ready-made combinations as less personal. This holds across your last three studies.

Speed you can defend internally

Fast insight is only useful if you can stand behind it. Four things keep Verso honest.

Humans in the loop

Real researchers check the AI's work on a sample at each step, and adjust the guide when needed.

Every quote is sourced

Each verbatim links to the exact second in the recording. You can always hear it for yourself.

Honest samples

Results are shown by group with real numbers. We never turn a tiny group into a big headline.

GDPR-native

Data stays in Europe, consent is handled throughout, and your data is never used to train AI models.

What you walk away with

More than a slide deck

The tangible things that land on your desk at the end of a study.

Multimodal insights

Video, voice and text together, so you see and hear people, not just read a summary.

Verbatims

Real quotes in people's own words, each linked to the exact moment in the recording.

Super-cuts

The strongest moments across many interviews, stitched into one short clip to play in a room.

A ready-to-use language

Clear findings and wording your team can lift straight into a brief, a deck or an ExCo slide.

Questions we get from researchers

The hard questions

The objections we hear most, answered straight.

“Can an AI really run qualitative?”

It's the first question every researcher asks, and it's the right one. The AI runs the conversation, trained on real qualitative methodology, while a human researcher checks its work at every step and adjusts the guide when needed. You get the depth of a skilled moderator, applied identically across hundreds of interviews no human team could reach.

“Doesn't automating the interview add bias?”

In qualitative, it's the opposite. A human moderator leads without meaning to, reacts to what they hear, tires by the tenth interview, and asks the same question three different ways across a study. Verso's AI asks every participant in the same neutral, trained way, never signals a “right” answer, and never gets tired. No group and no one watching means people give the honest answer instead of the one they think you want. And in analysis, the bottom-up read is done blind to our hypotheses, so we surface what's actually there, not only what we went looking for.

“How good is the sample, really?”

We recruit through vetted, professionally-managed panels and screen every participant against your criteria. We check engagement quality throughout and replace anyone who rushes or free-rides. Results are always shown by group with honest sample sizes. We never turn a tiny group into a big headline.
